There are more Democrats than Repubs, but the Dems cluster on the coasts and big cities, while the rural sparsely populated places have more older white GOP types.
So we need to redistribute the Dems to the hinterlands or get stuck with right wing control of the Presidency and the Senate.
Who is willing to give up lattes for the sake of the country? Move it before we lose it, the it being democracy.
Another idea is that compact when states with 270 electoral votes agree to vote for the popular vote winner for president.

China and Hong Kong

This summer, however, after weeks of antigovernment demonstrations and some incidents of violence, questions about the military have been revived. Chinese officials and state media have reacted with increasing vitriol to the protesters, particularly after some painted slogans on the central government’s liaison office in Hong Kong on Sunday night and splashed ink on the national crest.
On Wednesday, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of National Defense warned that the “behavior of some radical protesters challenges the central government’s authority,” something that “absolutely cannot be tolerated,” hinting that China was prepared to use military force if necessary.
The exact of troops stationed in the territory is not formally announced, but estimates range between 6,000 and ,000. Many soldiers spend time in Shenzhen, the mainland Chinese city across the border, where it is cheaper to house them and easier to carry exercises. So only part of the garrison is in Hong Kong any given time.
The People’s Liberation Army manages 19 sites in Hong Kong, including barracks. The most prominent sites are a helicopter regiment Shek Kong Air Base, a naval base with a handful of smaller warships Stonecutters Island and the headquarters of the Hong Kong garrison along Victoria Harbor on Hong Kong Island. The headquarters, in a building that was once the British military command center, is across a street from the Hong Kong legislature and the main local government offices. So the protests that have roiled the city for weeks often take place a short distance from army headquarters.
The “one country, two systems” model, which Hong Kong exists as a semiautonomous part of China, lets the city operate its own local institutions. But foreign relations and national defense fall the responsibility of the central government in Beijing.
So the Hong Kong police and courts are responsible for law and order, while soldiers stationed in the city “shall not interfere in local affairs,” according to the garrison law for Hong Kong and the Basic Law, the local constitution. But the local government may ask Beijing for assistance from the garrison “in the maintenance of public order and in disaster relief.”
The military has never been called in to help with public order, but last year, hundreds of soldiers did help clear trees after a typhoon the city. The garrison often has days when it invites the public to see weaponry and watch drills, but it is rare to see a soldier in Hong Kong outside the military facilities.
Still, the military did publicize soldiers’ participation in drills in Hong Kong last month, as the protest movement was growing. Photos carried by the official military newspaper showed soldiers on board a navy vessel backed by the Hong Kong skyline. When Senior Col. Wu Qian, the Chinese Ministry of Defense spokesman, warned Wednesday about the possibility of military involvement, he pointed out that the law would permit such action. But thus far, there is no indication that the Hong Kong government wants troops to step in. Twice in the last month, the local authorities have denied reports of plans to use the Chinese military for security purposes in Hong Kong. In practice, any such decision would be made by China’s leader, Xi Jinping, with the likely involvement of the Politburo Standing Committee, the highest level of political power in China, said Willy Lam, professor at the Center for China Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Such a decision does not appear to be imminent, and at this point, the discussion of military force is probably a tactic to put pressure on the protesters to back down, Mr. Lam said. One key obstacle to using soldiers is that it would deeply stain the Chinese leadership’s reputation, he said.
“China would lose a lot of ,” said Mr. Lam. “Sending in troops would mean that 22 years after the resumption of sovereignty, Beijing has dismally failed to win hearts and minds in Hong Kong and needs to rely on brute force.”

Trump and the Russians

I did not watch the circus, just the highlights. The craven GOP is too much torture to endure. The key takeaway is that Trump loves Putin and Russian help in the elections, even if there is no provable criminal conspiracy.
The Mueller report cataloged numerous meetings between Trump’s advisers and Russians seeking to influence the campaign and the presidential transition team — encounters set up in pursuit of business deals, policy initiatives and political dirt about Hillary Clinton, Trump’s 2016 Democratic opponent.
Mueller concluded that there was “insufficient evidence” to determine that the president or his aides had engaged in a criminal conspiracy with the Russians, even though the Trump campaign welcomed the Kremlin sabotage effort and “expected it would benefit electorally” from the hackings and leaks of Democratic emails. On Wednesday, Mueller was asked about the Trump Tower meeting, WikiLeaks and the decision by Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, to share campaign information with a Russian oligarch, and whether such episodes were becoming typical for political campaigns.
“I hope this is not the new normal,” Mueller said, “but I fear it is.”
Determining the breadth of the Russian interference campaign was a cornerstone of the Mueller investigation and is very likely to be an enduring legacy of the special counsel’s work. On that front, the conclusions of Mr. Mueller and his team were perfectly clear: The Russian government orchestrated the effort, and many of Trump’s aides welcomed it, even if they did not actively coordinate with Moscow.
Trump spent months characterizing the special counsel’s report as a “total exoneration,” though Mueller stated that he and his team drew no such conclusion. The report, released in April, laid bare that Trump was elected with the help of a foreign power; Mueller was most impassioned when describing the contours of the Russian sabotage playbook.
“They’re doing it as we sit here,” he said of Russia’s continued interference in American elections.
Trump and GOP legislators continue to welcome Russian interference in the 2020 election.
Trump and the GOP block efforts to prevent Russian interference in the 2020 election. Putin sought and seeks to weaken NATO, the European Union and the U.S.A.

Expedited removal

The old rule was those caught within 100 miles of the border, within 60 days entering the U.S. without inspection could be removed without going before a judge.
Trump is now expanding expedite category to the entire U.S. and within two years of coming to the U.S.
So those without legal status should carry proof they have been here for two years, and seek asylum if they have any claim to status. the law suits are coming to block this rule change. Likely to have the scope pared back the courts.

Finally bought a car

I have been trying to buy a new Mustang GT since April 2018. I have been lied to more times than on this site. Three times I put down deposits and got nothing. I placed special orders three times and got nothing.
I have been told I could get a deal on a car that was already sold. I was pushed to accept options I did not want and not get options I did want.
I was afraid my car would fail as it was almost nine years old.
I finally got a deal made on Saturday. It was a long haul but worthwhile.
Now I tell the car salesmen, talk to me again in seven or eight years.
I learned a lot of tricks and things to not do in trying to buy a car. I now understand why people hold onto old cars so long. Some prefer to lease to avoid the purchase and sale of the trade in. Others just uber or lyft and forget owning a car.
The car biz got worse and no one told me.

What is love?

The school answered: Baby don't hurt me, anymore...
My theory is love is the accumulated affection for someone who has been kind to you in the past and you expect to continue to be kind with in the future. Sort of like a or cat you are fond of, only more complex.
You may fall in love at first sight, but the good feelings build with repetition.
Sex is better with practice and knowing what your partner responds well to.
Usually one night stand sex is substandard. So if you do not build a relationship you are relegating yourself to substandard sex. Not a smart move.
What do you think about love?

Local sex partners

Southern California has millions of people. Why would a sensible person want a sex partner offer from Africa, Europe or Asia? I am not interested in commuting to San Diego for sex, let alone Australia. Yet I get flirts from people thousands of miles away.
Why do I have such radiant sex power that I attract distant lovers, but the nearby ones are immune to my charms? Sex magnetism seems to work the opposite of gravity.
My sex power to attract is stronger at the square of the distance we are apart.

Sex or love?

An old cliche is that men give love to get sex, while women give sex to get love.
Of course a sensible person wants both lusty sex and sexy love.
But men seem to value the sex more, perhaps because they are deprived.
Women want romantic love more because men fail to provide that service and fill that need.
So people are not satisfied. No wonder substance abuse is rampant, people turn to porn and games on their phones.
Even physically fit are having less sex as they have more phone time. The rate of pregnancies is much lower than in the past. Indicating less sex, not better contraception.
This world keeps coming up with new ways to vex.
Allen Ginsburg complained that where ever he went the orgies had gone before him.

I thought it must be a trick question. If you are here and not wanting to get laid, then you are in the wrong place. Even if you do not get laid, you should want to get laid.....

New attempt to shut down asylum claims from Mesico border crossers

Most immigrants the Southern border won’t be eligible to apply for asylum an interim final rule published Monday by the Trump administration.
the new rule, immigrants the Southern border must apply for asylum in least one country they enter while on their way to the United States, report CNN, the Associated Press, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.
The rule effectively ends asylum for any migrant at the Southern border who isn’t from Mexico, according to the Los Angeles Times. The proposal would require migrants to apply for asylum even though the United States hasn’t negotiated a “safe third-country” agreement with the countries they traverse. Currently, the United States has such an agreement with Canada; it requires asylum-seekers entering the United States from Canada to first apply for asylum in Canada.
The rule is scheduled to take effect on Tuesday July , 2019. Exceptions apply for victims of human trafficking, for people denied asylum by other nations, and for people who arrive at the United States after traveling through a nation that isn’t a party to international treaties governing refugees.
The American Civil Liberties Union “will sue swiftly” over the new rule, according to a statement by Lee Gelernt, deputy director of the Immigrants’ Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union. “The Trump administration is trying to unilaterally reverse our country’s legal and moral commitment to protect those fleeing danger,” he said. “This new rule is patently unlawful.”
The U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security published the rule in the Federal Register. It cited increasing numbers of immigrants at the Southern border and an increasing percentage of immigrants seeking asylum. The 9th Circuit blocked a different restriction in December that said asylum claims could be made only by people who entered the United States through ports of entry. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to lift the injunction the same month.

Article 37 of the Mexican Constitution provides naturalized citizens lose their citizenship if they stay outside Mexico for five years. Lots of people do not know this fact.
I have a who was a naturalized citizen of Mexico but stayed away for more than five years. DHS wants to deport him to Mexico, but they will not take him so he will probably get to stay in the U.S. You cannot ship them out if the other country will not take them....
