Recently (as in last night)I posted a question on the Advice Line. It was asking for advice to help me better understand a friend who I am getting close with that told me about her shyness. It being the advice line, I thought I would get some advice, and did not dream of getting attacked... I actually thought it was a good question, for a change of what's often there.
In asking the question, FIRST MISTAKE was to state what my opinion was and to admit that it was NOT a good attitude to have.
What I learned was two things: Criticizing people (or being seen as criticizing) for being shy, set off more than a few angry and upset responses.
Among these responses were accusations that I am Psychotic, and threats to kick my ass and lectures about how rotten a person I am for asking such a question and not having the correct attitude. Judge, Jury, Executioner.
So if any of you who were offended are actually reading this: I meant no harm, nor disrespect, and simply wanted to learn more about a type of person who I did not know much about.
I thought that I took pains to be respectful in the original post, and also, to own that my attitude was not a great one to have. Guess some missed that part.
What I should have known better about is:
1. Some people REACT and attack, they miss the point and get quite nasty.
2. Much of this is due to simple-mindedness, as in not carefully reading the OP and getting what my intentions were.
False assumptions, attacks, and accusations, when really all I was trying to do was to be more empathetic by asking the question in the first place.
So I guess that people on Affair Link would much prefer the regular drivel, i.e penis size, or have their little pissing wars.
My thanks to the several who did give me thoughtful answers instead of jumping on the pig pile. These were helpful.

OK So I know that not all of my readers here will agree with me...But...It's a free country, disagree if you will.
I am convinced that the Republican leadership did nothing in Congress the past two years because they did not want Obama to be re-elected. FAIL
I am also convinced that in certain states, the Republicans tried to thwart voters of color and poor, uneducated people with trying to pass ID laws, intimidation and other not so subtle means. Notably Texas and Florida. FAIL.
I do agree that the country is not in great shape but hardly feel that Romney or the Tea Party Republicans offer any better solutions to a mess that Bush created, Obama inherited, and who has been thwarted purely out of partisanship.
I also personally have a theory that calling Obama a "Socialist" is just a code word for something far more racist and sinister that the mostly 100% white, conservative and male Tea Party folk can't say out loud.
Whatever, it failed. Democracy worked. He won fair and square, and now maybe, perhaps the congress can get over themselves and actually try to improve the mess that we are in.

fudging about age...

So don't get mad but I wonder if there is a double standard between men and women on fudging on age in a profile. I don't because I see it as dishonest and know that the truth comes out anyway and would be decapitated if caught doing it. I don't want to waste anyone's time with a revealing let down. And I see it as wrong.
But I have had at least two dates where the woman has lied about their age, once by ten years and recently by 4 or 5. The first situation happened when I was on the second or third date and asked where she was when JFK was shot and when she said high school I nearly shit. Right then in my head I was really disappointed, it would be so weird not to have someone close to my age to share those types of memories with. I let it slide right then but later in email discussed that it was not cool to start off with anyone based upon any sort of lie. Her answer was that she agreed that it was wrong and at the same time when she posted her real age, all she got hitting on her was old pasty looking specimens. She did look the age she lied to be, I tried to go further in the relationship but just let it dwindle out. One thing a woman can't know about me is that I was married to someone 3+ years older than me for 25 years so I really don't want to go older this time. So I generally don't hit on any more than a year older. If I make an exception, that's my choice.
When I discussed this with my women friends, (and even my mom I got the answer from many that it is a woman's perogative. Or that it's not that big a deal for a woman to fudge. I'm not about damnation judging this to be a deal breaker, but it doesn't help if you are ambivilent to begin with about there being the mojo/desire to go forward, only to have that awkward moment of truth!
If you'd like leave a comment. I am interested in viewpoints.

I have an elder sister who had a traumatic brain injury ten years ago. She has four adult who have basically done little to nothing to help. She and her husband are long out of love, in fact prior to the stroke she and he were actively discussing divorce. Then an aneurism, brain surgery, crippled for life. Her husband stood by with her, through a sexless relationship, and he still stands by her, while trying to have a life of his own. Which he deserves. But he needs respite, a break, and a life from time to time. My two siblings and I have provided days and weekends of care to support her husband (and her) needs to give them a break from each other. When the crisis hit, her , all adults, claimed they would chip in, and once they got the word that her husband actually has a relationship outside of the marriage that my sister is both aware of and accepts, they used that as an excuse to judge, and to say they would not help due to that. This deprives my sister of care from them, it is a LAME excuse, and just a selfish way for them to get off of any commitment. Same old same old. I am disgusted with them and there is little that I can do. But I would like to smack them all down, and have decided to not discuss with those how I feel unless it is face to face, and yeah then I will tell them. I am disgusted with their lack of any integrity and see right through their bullshit. Their mother (my sister) and they are the losers in that equation. Just venting on my blog, if anyone notices or cares, and thank you for reading. Feel free to offer any comments of comfort.
