Pushing the Envelope
Pushing the Envelope So this is an exchange between me and a student... Her: Hey dude! So when I spoke to you in lab last Thursday evening you had gave my a sticky with 80% on it for my overall class grade. You said it was missing the first micro-world project score however. I would always appreciate ideas on keeping my grade in the b region at least. I will hollar at you later tonight in lab when you have time regarding tips and tricks. Me: Dude? Shouldn't that be Professor Dude, or Dr. Dude? Yes, your score is a low B but you have a very good chance of keeping it. Most of the homework scores are beneficial. You should be fine, just focus on the practical and the final. My intuition tells me that if you had more free time to prepare, you'd be an A student. Full-time jobs tend to make all of this more challenging. Her: I got to say, Dr.Dude is pretty cool......😎 Me: So shall I refer to you as Ms. Dudette? See you in 30. I'll hold off on the quiz until you get there. If you do decide to drop by the pub tonight, I'll be playing a few songs with the first band, Pining Hearts, after 8. Address is 8409 N Lombard, over in 'old town' St. Johns. Her: Happy Birthday Dr.Dude, I hope your day is as smooth as that mullet you used to rock circa 1990! 👌 Thanks for the address, hopefully I get a second wind after meeting with my running club tonight. I'll deff need to refuel with beer!! Me: The first one's on me.... Her: Happy Monday! After running in the rain Friday evening I resembled something like a drowned rat and felt a little like one as well! Haha, hope you played a good show and had some fun.... See you later doc Me: Being a river rat, drowning isn't really something to take lightly. I haven't fallen in the drink, yet. lol I had fun, and I imagine you did too! I missed you, but my aim is improving! I host an open mic there on Sundays...I always find time to play there. Just sayin'. See you tonight. Her: You are most definitely deserving of those compliments! (she said I was very handsome; in a classroom full of students) This letter is perfect! One I will share with both of my young men.... It's like you get women or something? I have the pleasure of accompanying my oldest and his pals to a punk rock show this evening. I am flattered they still think I'm cool enough to hang out with. Being a young mother has it's perks I suppose. I hope your Saturday evening is enjoyable. Later Doctor Dude! Me: Hey Wheels! Do you think I get (understand??) women? Wow! Saturday was great! All the bands (3) were top-notch and were fun to work with. Tonight I host the open mic; it is an absolute joy for me! Tonight I hope to do a tune I wrote; I write love songs (surprising, huh?). It'll be a duet with a most amazing young woman; KD. You'd enjoy the night, come join us some time. BTW, you are a very cool young mom, and woman, and deserve all the flattery you receive. See you tomorrow! Doc I would really enjoy going to an open mic soon, today I chanted my ass off enough to make a European futbol hoodlum proud. The Timbers home opener was today and I am very much a fan having played soccer my whole life. It runs deep in me bones.... We won, and had a lovely tifo to boot, it read; "Dance, Kiss, Love.... Always remember your first." In your spare time you should google to tifo from tonight, it was something special. I'm glad you had a chill weekend and I hope to hear one of these "love ballads" soon! Good evening Doctor Dude.... See you tomorrow Well, now you've taught me something! I never knew what a tifo was until now! I've not had the good fortune to watch the Timbers live, it would be a first for me. I love live sport but rarely have the chance to see it... You sound like a pirate when you say 'runs deep in me bones'. There's a square-rigger across the dock from me that has been a pirate ship in PDX for some time. And, oddly enough, I live in Pirate's Cove. To arrrrrr is Pirate! My weekends are always a bit exhausting; I run sound Friday through Sunday nights, and I teach at Sylvania 9-4; it makes for some long days and nights. But I'll bet my passion for that is akin to your passion for futbol! Sunday nights are almost reverent; musicians honoring musicians, and fans. I host it; I suppose I'm kind of a show-off. Last night was wonderful; many talented and passionate artists. I shared the mic with two women throughout the night; KD and I sang my song, and then later I accompanied another woman on an Alicia Keys love song. You kinda get the pattern here. I would be honored to share that time with you. So, I remember all three....Summer Camp at the Coast; KB, first kiss after a slow dance to "Don't Bring Me Down" by the Beatles. They were still together then. First love....well, I'll tell ya later. I'll see you tonight, Wheels! Doc |
