The Things We Say: Do As I Say . . .
The Things We Say: Do As I Say . . . The mirror can be a real tough thing to look in sometimes. I would imagine that may be especially true for the person who wants to be the Attorney General of the United States – Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions. In an interesting, to say the least, twist of fate it turns out that Mr. Sessions had asked pointed questions of a Deputy Attorney General’s Office appointee, in 20. Her name was Sally Yates. Sessions grilled Yates on the responsibility to defend the Constitution and U.S. laws against President Obama’s views, which he suggested were “unlawful”. Specifically he asked: “You have to watch out because people will be asking you to do things and you need to say no,” Sessions said during the hearing. “If the views the president wants to execute are unlawful, should the attorney general or the deputy attorney general say no?” Yates’ reply was: “Senator, I believe the attorney general or the deputy attorney general has an obligation to follow the law and the Constitution and to give their independent legal advice to the president.” Unlike many in DC Yates, who was the Acting Attorney General up until this Monday, proved she was up to the task and backed up her words with action. She refused to defend the unlawful order of the current POTUS. Not surprisingly Rump fired Yates on Monday night for doing her job as she indicated to Senator Sessions she would. Mr. Sessions now will have to make the same choices. From what I have seen he is not up to the task. I say . . . Sally Yates Hero . . . When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. |

Now you're talking my language. You know it mate replace the entire supreme court My thought would be to change it to 20 year terms at best. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I would love to have this discussion (maybe over a couple barley refreshments) it would be good for people here and as you said people around the world. But this venue is too small and time consuming to cover all the ins and outs of our Constitution and laws/regulations. Hell, we never covered it all in my law classes. It is far from as black and white as we would like it to be. And our Constitution and laws/regulations could certainly do with a regular review. Hopefully that is something good that could come from the Rump we foolishly put in office. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Our Constitution isn't as black and white as that - by design. In my law classes we were taught that it is a "living" (changeable, open to interpretation within the court system) document. The warrantless wiretapping was allowed by a court as I recall. Did Sally Yates stand up to that? It wasn't viewed as illegal. Or does her oath to defend the constitution only come into effect when the opposition is in power? It was in effect while she was the acting AG under Obama & Trump. I think Americans need to decide whether they want a government that obeys the law and demand that no matter who is in power.Unfortunately most Americans don't even understand the laws or how they come about. In part thanks to our lack of education system. The dumber the people are the easier it is to ply them with fear - a tactic of both of our parties IMO. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

She did the right thing something that Sessions isn't likely to do. If only some of these Republicans who claim they are so for this country and doing the right thing could come up with enough balls to do the same. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. I stand behind her one hundred percent, we need more strong people to stand up do the ICO ( and you know what that means ) so I hope more of the Congress, Senate and the Cabinet follow her lead.. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Some people think that they are above the Constitution, and even our laws. . They think that THEY have all the answers and are the only ones who's opinions count. I do think that people like that need to be put in their place. . But I'm not sure just who can do that. . He's holding all the cards. Exactly what the current situation is. They try to disguise it with BS and "alternative facts". He's holding all the cards. He has a good hand but the game is far from over. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. Sessions will be a henchman for Rump - he seems to have little regard for the actual laws he won't enforce. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I recall from days gone by Nixon and his "imperial presidency." Check out those ornate White House Guards uniforms he had done up. But he didn't gold-plate everything. To hit an Archibald Cox/Eliot Richardson/William Ruckleshaus moment two weeks into an administration makes for interesting history. And the data points keep on coming. I was pretty young during Watergate but didn't Nixon fire the whole justice department for siding with the constitution and not him? Just sayin' When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I have to have agree that she did what she felt she needed to do. speak truth to power. and he did what he was allowed to do.. she severs at the request of the president.. would have loved to just see her quit. . i think it would have had more power.. but i like her spunk. Rump firing her showed further evidence of his lack of ability to lead. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Yesterday I was optimistic because I saw and participated in a little people power. Then I was pessimistic again when I heard about Ms Yates. It's an inexorable fall to the bottom, just when you think it can't get worse, it does, every fucking day........... When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
