Listening .......
Listening ....... to the car radio today while driving around the city, listening to the American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest, guest host was Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic. He was talking about Beyonce and trying to explain what it was like to work with her. He decided to use a certain word [which sadly escapes me] but it was definitely not the correct word to describe her talent. He meant to imply that she has a certain presence about her while she is in a room and the word he used, while impressive, did not fit the situation. I am a big fan of word play and intelligence but when people attempt to use big words and get them wrong, I have to restrain my PHD. Which prompted me to look up the definition of said act when I came home - catachresis - the use of a word in a way that is not correct. I had heard the word before but never took the time to look up what it meant. When people type "my pants are lose" instead of loose, or "my favourite team is loosing the game", misuse there, their, and they're, and to and too, I shake my head and usually chuckle. Is it an indictment of our educational system or of our society that has seemed to have stopped placing an importance on spelling and sentence structure? Not really, as there are a lot of you out there that excel at both, but it's [oh yeah, its and it's too] the wordsmiths, or should I say, the non-wordsmiths, that jump out at you and make you wince. Our local chat room is blessed [???] by one such scholar that surpasses the norm. Liek for like, coffee no longer ends in ee, are among his favourites and he couples it with savage, although juvenile, attacks on anyone who points any error out to him. Luckily there is always the for people like him, but he does poison the atmosphere in the room. Have you ever come across someone like that in your chat room travels? Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way to ban them from a room for their conduct? And yes, I am dreaming considering the platform. Drop in and visit my blog sometime, but you'll probably regret it |

Not only is this "spot on" but it's true and funny at the same time. I have a very difficult time reading blogs with poor spelling, poor punctuation, and bad grammar. So does author 51 (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

I am a full-fledged member of the grammar police, and tend to see bad grammar as an indication of either laziness, poor education and/or not being the sharpest pencil in the box I take full advantage of iggy, although not usually for bad grammar, rudeness will do it though

LOL. Already I have noticed a punctuation error in a comment. I wonder if my English teacher was incorrect when she said never a comma before "and'" and only two commas per sentence. When the subject was "paragraph structure" and the use of "semi colons", I'm still lost.

I tend to have a hard time reading chat with all the abbreviations and miss used words. I do not pretend to be a scholar by any means, however, I can not stand 2, instead of two, too, or to. It would take me longer to find the number two then it would to type two, too, or to.... That is just one of my pet peeves. I use the iggy bin as well, usually for crude actions more than typos or poor grammar. And there are a few in chat who's brains are in a constant state of fog. I agree, some have made it difficult to enjoy chat these days. I do miss the evenings of chatting with those who enjoy the joking and laughter.

I have run across a few of them in the chat rooms. Trying to impress me with their big words. So I agree with you here some have made it very difficult to enjoy the chatroom on this site. Have you seen the decline in chat rooms over the last few years. I sure have.. That is why I rather blog instead. Really too bad as this is great way to get to know people is through chat! hugsssss V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

I, myself, hate when reading anything where the person doesn't use the correct term, such as the 'two, to, too' thing. I can read the post, but it bugs me. If I come across repeated errors, I tend to not read those blogs anymore, or converse with those people on the faceplace, or what not. Those are the same people that tend to use "cum" instead of "come" in sentences having nothing to do with sex. Drives me nuts. Another huge pet peeve ... "I seen" Aghhhhhhh I on the other hand do not know all the proper sentence structure shit ... so, I will word the sentence however the hell I want to. lol. And that Oxford comma bullshit ... where the fuck did that shit come from??? Was NOT taught in my school. Double spacing after each sentence? Nope, not happening.
