THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MAN AND A BOY
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MAN AND A BOY Lately, I've encountered a lot of women that have expressed their disappointment to me when it comes to dealing with men. They usually call me with a Keyshia Cole song playing in the background complaining about how there are no good men left and that I'm the last of a dying breed! lol Now some of these women are female friends that I've known for years so everytime they call I know that it's about some drama with their boyfriend "Ray Ray," or "Twan," or "Tyrone." Half the time I don't even answer my phone because I'm tired of being Dr. Phil without getting paid the Dr. Phil money! Not all of my female freiends are jaded but I do know quite a few who are angry from being in relationships in which they were dogged and mistreated. Therefore, I decided to write this blog for women who may not be aware that there are many "boys" out there who masquerade as "men." Basically, if you want a successful relationship, you have to learn how to separate the "men" from the "boys." I also want to say that the difference between a boy and a man is more than just physical. There's a mental, spiritual and intellectual difference. To me, being a man has never been based solely on age. My definition of manhood has to do with maturity and responsibility. Being a man means accepting responsibility for my actions. Being a man means that I am mature and accountable. Furthermore, a real man, in my opinion, has God in his life. He works or owns his own business, puts his family first and provides for his . He owns land or is working towards purchasing a home. He is respectful but also has a low tolerance for ignorance and bullshit. Those are the characteristics of a real man. But how does one become a man? In this society, when you reach 18 you're considered an adult. But when I visited Ghana years ago, I learned that the community and elders determine who attains the status of adulthood. There is an African proverb that says," You are born male but rites of passage rituals are what transforms you into a man." In traditional African societies, there were rites of passage programs that taught young men how to become proficient carriers of their peoples culture. Unfortunately, we've lost that in the Black community. Historically, the Black church served as the community in which young people underwent rites of passage rituals but many of our youth don't go to church anymore. It's a sad and harsh reality that not every boy will make that transition into manhood. I grew up in South Side of Chicago and I know a whole bunch of males that are a lot older than me that are still trying to be playas and pimps. These cats prey upon as many young women as possible. Some are even married! These dudes are in their late 30s and 40s, still livin' at home with their mama, driving a Chrysler 300 and still behaving like teenage boys! R. Kelly ain't got nuthin' on these cats! That's why I say that age has nothing to do with maturity and being a man! Unlike men, boys are content with hangin' out on the corner all night and runnin' with the streets while the white man continues to run the world and global economy. Boys love to fuck and impregnate women but are quick to run away from the responsibility of raising the . Boys can roll a blunt and smoke "purple" all day but are too lazy to apply for a job. That's why I'm trying to lace women with game in this blog! You need to be more critical and analytical of who you fuck with! Quit dealin' with these lil' ass boys that still live with their mama (drinkin' her orange juice..lol), don't have a car, a job, no aspirations (I don't consider wanting to grow a weed farm an aspiration), and don't take care of their . Why settle for a relationship with a boy (and be miserable) when you be single, celibate and waiting for God to send you're soul mate? Quit settling for just anybody and wait for Mr.Right instead of Mr.rightnow to come into your life! I guess I'm just frustrated because I'm tired of seeing women hurt. I'm tired of seeing beautiful Black women walking around with broken hearts from being lied to and abused all the time. I'm tired... HRDASHELL |

OMG I think I just fell in love with you. Why can't more men be as focused and smart and determined as you? It's a shame how men in our community act...something seriously needs to be done. Sleepy Angel HRDASHELL
