Cars Gone Bad
Cars Gone Bad Hello bloggers! Guess where keithcancook spent the last four days? Yep. In the wild. On the Uwharrie River to be more specific. My friend and I wished to welcome Spring in the high country, so we loaded up her van, and headed for the hills. We were in high spirits entering the forest. We wound our way over the bumpy gravel road for miles. Deeper and deeper into the wilderness until we reached our intended destination for a few days of camping. Then disaster struck! "What's that smell, do you smell that?", I asked her. "I think so, she replied. "Is something wrong"? So I tell her to pull over, and I got out when she did. That's when I saw the tire. She saw my face, and asked me what was the matter. I told her that the good news is that we are gonna get our usual camping crisis* out of the way early on this trip. "Well, what's the bad news?", she asked. "We won't find that out until we check the spare tire", I told her. So, do any of y'all have any stories of cars gone bad in the worst of possible places? *On one trip we ran down the car battery by accident, and had to wait for a jump while in the middle of nowhere without a cellular signal. (that actually happened on two different occasions). On another trip I fractured two ribs. We got lost in the woods on a different trip, and we get lost driving on just about every trip we take. |

Many moons ago, I was traveling with all my possessions in my car when I ran out of gas on the interstate in Indiana. It was in the middle of nowhere and almost dusk, so I didn't want to leave the car to go looking for a service station. After an hour or so someone stopped and gave me enough gas to get to the next exit. There I found out that my alternator had quit working and was not charging the battery. The guy said it would be touch and go as to whether I could get where I was going or not unless I did as little to drain the battery as possible. I had to drive without lights and no radio. AKA The Clit Whisperer.

Fire??? You didn't mention how you put it out. I have many, many cars gone bad stories. The most memorable stranded me in Ludlow, Arizona all alone with three babies. You also didn't mention what you did to pass the time while you were waiting for a jump.

Oh, we had a fine time, redluv. Since we had a little donut tire as a spare we didn't want to stress it by driving over bumpy gravel roads. That limited us to hiking the area near camp rather than where we actually wanted to go. We only hiked about 5 miles the first day, and my feet were so sore that night I could hardly set them on the ground. Just tender from not much walking all winter, I guess. I laced my boots tight and did another 5 miles the next day, albeit over easier ground that time. My feet were sore again that night, so I took it easy that last day, and stayed close to camp. It's all good, as I am tougher now, feet feel fine, and I'm ready to tackle some rougher ground for the next hiking trip. Basically we just made lemonade out of the lemons that were presented us. blog on!

You also didn't mention what you did to pass the time while you were waiting for a jump. There are many ways to pass the time when you are in the woods with your friend. I am happy you made it out of Ludlow, eventually. Thank you for sharing that with us here in The Venting Blog!

Well I do, too! There's no gnats, ticks, chiggers, poison ivy, and other such irritants in a 5-star. However, in the warmer months I prefer hiking the high country to climbing the walls indoors. It's good to see you here again, emeritebelle!

From the sound of some of your disasters, you need a compass! Mabey the deflation caused the road to feel bumpier than it actually was?

From the sound of some of your disasters, you need a compass! Mabey the deflation caused the road to feel bumpier than it actually was? Perhaps it may have felt bumpier. I dunno. I believe the smell of burning rubber very shortly followed the deflation. We stopped PDQ. blog on!
